Family Farmstead Workshop, August 4-6

Has your family desired to learn how to have a more self-sustainable, frugal family lifestyle, while at the same time seeing improvements in your family food choices through simpler, healthier, organic living?

Our new Family Farmstead:  the "Suburban Farmette" - a Beginner's guide to Sustainable Living with Smaller (or even tiny!) Yards will help you  not only see the wisdom of eating as God intended, but will also give you the foundation needed to raise and prepare your own organic vegetables, fruits and berries, and honey, as well as grass-based meat, eggs, and dairy products on a very small piece of property (or even in your backyard!!).  Topics will include organic gardening, small-scale dairying, backyard poultry, bees, rabbits, composting, worm beds, farmstead cheeses and soapmaking, and marketing your extra products!

This practical, hands-on class will be a fun time of exploring the concept of old-fashioned family farmsteading, realizing the great need to produce food that is both nourishing and economical, and learning how to be good stewards of our land, our time, and our resources.

Come and have an enjoyable time of fellowship with other families as you learn not only how to work together as a family producing your own food but also the rewards of drawing closer together once you go home as you work and fellowship as a family team to achieve a more self-sustaining lifestyle.

This two and one half day workshop will teach you the basics you will need to  know to learn how to begin gardening organically, raise clean, healthy meat, eggs, and dairy products, produce your own cheeses and butter, and learn how to turn your excess products into cottage-industry opportunities for extra family income.

Family Homestead: the "Suburban Farmette" will be held on August 4 - 6, 2014, (Monday evening through Wednesday) at the Heritage Ministry Center in Madison, TN (Nashville area), with a field trip scheduled to a local family-run goat dairy/farmstead cheese plant in the area.

This is a workshop for the entire family!  The cost will be $125 per family.  On-site family-friendly hotel rooms will be available at $55 per room each night (rooms sleep up to five).  All meals starting with Monday dinner and through Wednesday lunch will be included in the room rates for those staying on-site.  (A meal ticket option will be available for drive-in attendees - sign up when you make your class reservations.)

August Homeschool Family Fellowship Day

Announcing our August "Homeschool Family Fellowship Day"!

Greetings to all fellow homeschool families living in the Greater Nashville area and the surrounding communities!

Many of you have already heard the news, but for those who might not have, we are organizing   "Homeschool Family Fellowship Days" to be held during the coming school year.  These fellowship days will usually be held the third Saturday of each month at the Heritage Conference Center in Madison, TN (north Nashville area).  Each month will feature a topic/theme that the whole family will enjoy learning about, as well as provide fun activities for the children and provide a great time of meeting and fellowshiping with other homeschool families in the area!  These are being organized by a homeschool mother of 12, with over thirty years homeschool experience!

We are using the "God and Country" Conference as the family fellowship time for July (see our previous blog).  Future themes will include "Creation Science", "Frugal Family Living",  "A Godly Home", "Agriculture for the Homeschool Family", "Developing a Family Ministry Mindset", etc.  We are open to all ideas!

Our August 16th fellowship will be on the theme:  "Homeschool Bootcamp" and will include practical instruction for new homeschool families, encouragement/refreshment/re-focus for veteran families, tips on scheduling and home organization, and will conclude with a question and answer panel, where beginning homeschool parents can ask questions of a panel of veteran father and mother home educators.  (We need experienced parents for our panel!)

This will be great preparation and encouragement as you head into your next year of adventure in homeschooling!  Come with all your questions and/or wisdom to share!!

The cost for the August fellowship will be $25 for the family, which will include refreshments throughout the day, paper goods/drinks for the fellowship lunch, and the children's activity.  Please bring a sack lunch for your family to eat in our fellowship hall.  The hours for the day's events will run from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm, with family fellowship and children's playtime from 2:00 on.

There will also be a used curriculum sale/exchange at this fellowship!  Sellers will be charged $10 per two rectangular tables.  Buyers shop for free!!  The curriculum fair will be open from 8:30 - 10:00 am,  and from 3:30 - 5:00 pm.  Set up for Sellers can take place on Friday, July 15th from 1:00 until 5:00, or Saturday morning.

Early registration would be helpful as we plan this event, but you may also register at the door.  To register early, simply email or call and give us your family's name and the number attending.
